I am sorry to hear you are having the problems you are having.

I am assuming the bailiffs are trying to recover unpaid council tax or some other debt that is outstanding to the council.

Bailiff’s can normally only enter a property if you give them permission. It does not sound like the debt your son is being pursued for is one bailiffs can use to forcibly enter your home.

However, providing they have the correct paperwork, they can enter through an unlocked door or window. It is, therefore, best, to keep these locked at all times until you can get things resolved.

If you do let them in or they enter through an unlocked door, they can only take items that they believe belong to your son.

If any of his possessions are in the house they may be able to take these.

I would suggest contacting the bailiffs, and inform them he only used your address as a forwarding address and show them proof of your tenancy.

Inevitably, they will ask you where he lives, is he employed and who employs him. You do not need to give them this information, but this may result in them not being prepared to accept your son doesn’t live with you.

To some extent by allowing him to use your address you are saying he can be contacted via your home, so they are attempting to do just that: contact him.

If they don’t accept he doesn’t live with you, they may try and gain entry into your home.

As I have said,  you do not need to let them in, but should keep doors and windows closed.

Really your son needs to contact them and address this issue, or preferably address his debts by seeking advice.
