if my daughter uses my address as a postal address will that affect my credit rating

My daughter is living temporarily at her boyfriends parents and wants to use my address for her postal address. She owes a bit of money and I am worried that if she fails to pay and bailiffs get involved, they will be able to seize my goods even though she isn't living there. Also would her debt affect my credit rating if she is only using my address for her mail?

Re: if my daughter uses my address as a postal address will ...

Firstly, her debt will not affect your credit rating, your credit rating will show details of your personal credit information, that is your credit commitments and your payment history towards these debts. The exception to this could be if you were financially linked to someone, for instance a joint mortgage may show details of the other party to the mortgage.

Should there ever be a situation where your daughter was being pursued for debts by bailiffs then the bailiffs will attend at the address where they believe the person to be living, this is the place where they would naturally expect to be able to recover the debt owed by means of a cash repayment or by seizing goods for sale.

You are not obliged to allow anyone entry to your property without your permission or a court order to state that they have a right to enter the premises. This would generally only apply if the debt was for outstanding council tax or a court fine.

If bailiffs entered your property they would only be able to list goods for seizure and sale if they were goods belonging to your daughter

If you feel your daughter will have problems meeting her payment to creditors, then please do advise her to get advice rather than leaving it, as it will not go away. A debt advisor will be able to give her advice on how to deal with her debts and find a suitable solution to help her.
