My house completed 3 mths ago. I've now been asked to resign contracts my sols have lost?

I recently purchased a house in Kings Hill. This completed on the 24/10/08. My solicitors were useless and I had to constantly chase them in order to ensure that the transaction went through. Having been living in my new home for three months I have had to contact my solicitors again due to their errors.
It is now that they are asking me to resign the deeds and contracts in respect to my property. All this was originally done correctly as the property purchase completed and the mortgage was provided. It would appear that my solicitors have lost their copies of my deeds and contracts and I wish to know where I stand legally in respect to this.
I have put this to them but they have declined to admit or deny that this is the case over the phone and have arranged to meet me this wednesday.
I am not happy having to resign copies as they will not be the originals and also without the originals I'm not sure if the wording is the same etc.
Also I paid monies for the solicitors to store these.

Sorry to say that this in not the type of question we're qualified to answer. Perhaps the Citizens Advice or the professional body that regulates solicitors.
