You won't usually have to sell your car - unless your partner has proposed this as part of his IVA. After all - if you aren't in debt difficulty you won't be entering into the IVA yourself.
If you have a very expensive car which costs a lot to maintain it might make sense to the family budget for you to downsize it and you should take the advice of the company or charity who are setting up the IVA.
Remember an IVA is the client's proposal to their creditors. They are in control and they don't have to agree to it if they aren't happy.
