Would I owe my nephews debt and he does not even stay with me? |
Hi,
I have received a debt recovery amount of £50 on my nephews name at my address in London from Arrow Global Ltd.
The arrow global team is appointed to collect the debt on behalf of orange mobile services availed by nephew apparently when he was staying with me.
The letter talks about the unbilled amount dated back in year 2008.
My first query is what are the implication of such a letter?
Will I need to pay off the debt of my nephew who does not even live here?
Lastly what is the recourse I have available to claim that the letter should not be billed at my address as the person to be contacted lives in another country, moreover it's noty debt to be answered to?
Awaiting your kind response.
Thanks,
Anony
Re: Would I owe my nephews debt and he does not even stay ...
This debt is linked to the person, not your address so you are not responsible for this debt at all. It is best to write to the debt company trying to recover this debt and advise of the circumstances so you have this on record. They should pursue your nephew wherever he is, however, with a debt so small they may decide not to invest the time and expense to do this and write it off as a bad debt. This is not linked to you though in any way.
Re: Would I owe my nephews debt and he does not even stay ...
It looks like your nephews debt has been sold onto a debt collections agency and they are now trying to recoup the amount outstanding. As the debt is in the name of your nephew you are not liable. You can either call Arrow Global and make them aware that your nephew is not living at your address or simply return the paperwork you received enclosed in the same envelope stating, “ Return to sender, no longer at this address”.
