"Philips" (debt collectors) are refusing a payment plan. (TV License debt)

Hello,

My father owes £860, well that is what it states on the letter. That total amount is split 55/45. Some time ago, when we moved in the new property, we forgot to pay for TV license, therefore a person responsible for monitoring the service attended our property and told us that we have to pay around £200 or so. I'm not quite sure, but I believe that we were paying according to a payment plan.

Anyway, today we have received a letter stating that we owe £860 (my dad specifically). "Philips" (debt collectors) said in the letter that they will arrest my father because he owes this amount. We actually tried to pay the amount before, a few times, at least 3. However, "Philips" continuously acts unprofessionally. My father told them that he cannot pay the full amount, he said that he would like to make a payment plan. "Philips" agreed to do so, however, they hanged up the phone after 2 minutes, for NO REASON! When he called them back, they said that they want the full amount.

Keep a record of when you contacted the bailiff and what you offered etc. Then if they take you to court you can show how they acted unreasonably when offered payment by instalments. I would recommend that you try and set up a payment plan with them again to avoid court enforcement.
