I'm in desperate need of help regarding a debt of my partners |
I own my house and my partner who lives with me has received a letter from a debt collections agency saying he owes over £3000 for a loan he had with his bank. He has offered to pay £50 per month but this agency have told him he only has two options, one is to pay off nearly £2000 of the debt to which they will clear the remainder of the debt (they would want the money straight away), the 2nd option is to raise nearly £800 to which they will then accept monthly payments of £35 to clear the remainder of the amount. They asked him about what possesions he had i.e. mortgage, vehicles etc and basically they were stating that unless he took one of these two options, they could send bailiffs in to remove possesions. The mortgage is in my name only but we are both very worried that they could enter the property and take items to cover the debt. My partner and I are expecting our first baby in June and he explained the situation to the agency but they were not interested! Please help!

The thing to do is get some advice from a debt charity - either from your local Citizens Advice Bureau, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, or the Debt Advice Foundation.
No creditor can "send in bailiffs" and they should not reject any reasonable offer of payment.
We can help you make an offer of payment if you contact us and give us the information we require to act on your behalf - or you can use the Debt Tools on our website www.debtadvicefoundation.org
