I owed £10000 to 3 seperate debtors, i have had no contact with them for 7 years, how do I |
find out who i owe without them hassling me (who have the debts been passed to). I want to arrange to pay off my debts and with interest and charges, Im sure its a huge amount. Im worried they will contact my new employers. I cant afford much and I cant stop thinking about this. It isnt in my character to avoid debts and I want to put it right. I have been told that because its been so long they cant make me pay, but I dont want them knocking on my door and phoning me at work. I would rather find them first. I havent a clue what to do next.

One way to find out about the debts that you have is to apply for a credit report from www.equifax.co.uk or www.experian.co.uk which should outline all of your creditors and the amounts you owe. You can then contact the companies to inform them of your current contact details and make an offer of repayment. If a debt has not been acknowledged or had any payments made towards it for 6 years then it may be statute barred. This means that you are still liable for the debt but the creditor cannot enforce the debt through the courts. This prevents them from taking action through the courts to recover the money but does not stop them calling you and sending letters. If you are concerned that you will not be able to repay your debts it is advisable that you approach your local Citizens Advice Bureau or another debt counselling charity for advice.
