Enforcement in UK of alleged overseas debt

I have just received a demand from a UK debt collections agency demanding payment for an alleged credit card balance owed to a Middle East Bank (I left the Middle East over 2 years ago)
No formal receipt from this bank regarding any debt has ever been received by me. Yet this collection agency is threatening legal action.

Advice please on what I should do

Re: Enforcement in UK of alleged overseas debt

It depends which country the debt is from and if the UK has a reciprocal agreement with that country. If it is a country that we have a reciprocal agreement with then the creditor will need to enforce it in the country the debt was obtained in and can then enforce it through the High Court in the UK. If the creditor does this they will then have the same rights of enforcement as if a UK creditor obtained a County Court judgment in the UK.
