Do i have to pay this money? |
I have just recieved a letter from a debt collector saying they will be calling around tomorrow to recover 778 pound owed to Orange. I once had a contract sim and laptop witht them, my laptop was stolen and after speaking to orange agreed to pay 228 pound. After making payments for 3 months of 20 pound a fornight i contacted Orange as they stopped taking money from my account, i was told by the call centre manager i did not owe money anymore and there was no trace of me on there systems, i called three times to get this confirmed. A year later i am homeless and my parents have had the letter to there address, it is not a address i have ever used. I have recieved at least 5 phone calls over the past 2 weeks from the company but no one ever speaks, its always a automated message, this is the first letter i have recieved. The letter says the full amount must be paid within 72 hours i dont think this is my debt, i have no way of getting this money. any advice will be helpful.

In this situation you need to complain to Orange. You should request a subject access request which lists all calls made discussing the situation to use as evidence for your case. Firstly you will need to exhaust the Orange internal complaints procedure. If you are not satisfied with the result then you can complain to Ofcom. Orange must put all action on hold on your account whilst Ofcom are dealing with your complaint.
