When I can I start to get credit again?

I used a debt management company to help clear my debt, this was finally paid off in 2006. My credit report reads satisfied next to all my creditros, I would like to start to approve my credit rating again, but don't seem to be able to get any. My girlfriend has informed me that she says I can call the creditors and ask them to remove me from there debt list which in turn will be removed from my credit report, is this true? Also I would like to get a new bank account as I am with Lloyds and only allowed a cash account, does anyone no any banks I can go to and upgrade my account?

A bad credit history will show on your credit record for 6 years, so this year you may find financial institutions will start to give you limited amounts of credit. Different banks have different policies on who they will have accounts to, so it will be just a case of speaking to your local high street banks and seeing whether their policy will allow you to apply.
