debt collectors chasing from 4 years for 890 pounds

Hi there,
First let me thank you very much for your help in this forum. Here follows my nighmare;
I have debit collection agency chasing me to pay around 890 pounds (which include interest) that was borrowed from HFC for a computer in 2004.
The debt has changed hands with several debt collectors finally ending up in the hands of 1st credit. they have been chasing me since 5 months.
My question is whether the debit collectors go to court for this money? to get me a ccj? I don' t want this to happen ? if they do so, should I pay this money to them? or ignore it?

That money was borrowed by one of my rougue friends by stealing my details and went away to another country. I paid in the begining by knowing that the loan is on my name and if I don't pay I will be dragged into court.
However, I stopped paying that after some time, as I was not in a position to afford it.
Now I again became a student and can no longer afford to pay it.

Please sugget me.
Thank you so much

Re: debt collectors chasing from 4 years for 890 pounds

Firstly if the original amount owed to HFC was due to your personal;details being stolen by one of of your friends you need to get some evidence of that together - for example requesting a signed credit agreement.

If however you do owe the money - and the fact that you have made payments on the debt will usually be taken as an admission that you do - you need to be clear that your creditors are likely to take action against you. This can include a county court judgement.

1st Credit are well known for buying old debts and chasing them

I would write to the,creditor setting out why you don't think you owe this money providing the name and last known wherabouts of your friend..

If you find that you do owe the money a good debt advisor can help you make an offer that you can afford - so by all means click on my name and email me at Debt Advice Foundation.
