Lenders base their decisions, in part, on risk and this could be asked to satisfy the bank that enough money will be available to repay your borrowing.
They can ask but you do not need to provide this if you do not want to. If you do not however, they may just decline to offer you the loan as they will not be able to establish the risk.
Why not just ask them why they want/need the information and if you can proceed without it.
