Does anyone know where I can get information in English regarding bankruptcy in Spain? |
I live and work in Spain, own a house here and have a partner and child. Financially things have spiralled out of control and the mortgage company are talking of repossesion. We also have other debts. We are considering bankruptcy but obviously need some more information and advice. Could anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hi
I'm afraid I don't offhand. I do know that Spain doesn't have anything like as simple and easy a bankruptcy law as England and Wales. In fact I doubt anywhere does other than possibly the US.
If you have lived or worked in the UK in the last 3 years or you have an address here you could declare bankruptcy in the UK and it would deal with Spanish debt.
(Assuming the debt is Spanish) Or you can look at doing an IVA.
Other than that I think you will need some Spanish legal advice. You could look for an insolvency firm in your local area. Otherwise the British consulate might be able to help

Years ago I heard there was CAB of some kind for Brits on the Costa Blanca but I've just spent the last 20 minutes looking for it and I can't find it.
If I do, I'll post it here.

I just had the idea of looking up insolvency practitioners in Gibralter.
They may not be able to help but I'm sure they would have more idea than me!
