Will I have to forfit my possesions for my sons debt?

My son came back and lived with me and has run up debts. He doesn't work now. I have just kicked him out for various reasons.
He is not on the local register as living here and has not been on there for 3 years.
I know the baliff's will come at some stage.
How does it stand for me? I own everything, he only had the clothes he brought with him.

Thank you
Barbara

Re: Will I have to forfit my possesions for my sons debt?

No, debts are only owed by the individuals who signed the agreement, not their relatives.

A bailiff is an official of court, so they would only get involved if there had been a court judgment. They are not allowed to discuss their business with a third party, so if your son no longer lives there you can send them away.

They would give you notice of their visit.

Its more likely that debt collectors would get involved, and similarly these should be informed your son no longer lives there. That should be the end of the matter for you.

If your son needs debt advice, please try to get him to call us at Debt Advice Foundation.
