A Bailiff can enter any property in England and Wales in pursuit of a debt; however he/she can only take goods belonging to the debtor. It is your responsibility to provide proof of ownership.

Depending on the type of debt the bailiff does not have the right to enter unless given the permission to do so. In such instances it is best to keep doors and windows locked.

If you allow a Bailiff to cross the entrance of your property he/she can get a ‘Walking Possession Order’ which will grant him entry into the property the next time he visits and he will then be able to take goods.
