my father in law has debts,are we accountable


my father in law stayed with us for a couple of months before going to stay with a relative abroad,his post comes to us and we send it on.debt collectors have called about money he owes,will we end up having to pay it if he doesnt as he used our adress(not to take any finance out though)

No absolutely not.
(Although some debt collectors will try to tell you otherwise).
Unless you signed the credit agreement you are not liable,

What they may ask is why are you opening his post? You should forward it on unopened. Or return it marked "no forwarding address",
