question category: Bailiffs

I owe £1770 money for previous business marketing that I undertook.

I have (wrongly) ignored all contact from the courts, and now the bailiffs have hand delivered a letter saying that they are hiring a van to remove goods.

The marketing was for a previous business that I operated (half heartedly with a very poor income/turnover). I no longer operate this business, but am the director of a company which operates in an entirely different field.

I am loathe to pay this money even though it seems I have no legal grouds not to pay. My business, at the time, was barely ticking over. I had just been discharged from bankruptcy. And a radio company were holding an open day to talk about the "fantastic" advertising opportunities they had available. They over-hyped, and hard sold their services, yet the only money generated was in the form of a debt!

The warrant and bailiffs are operating under the county court.

I'm afraid to say you will have to pay the debt, and quickly.
Bailiffs usually mean there is a court judgement in place and as you probably know they don't mess about.]
I would contact them straight away and pay them before they turn up with a van (they will charge you extra fees for van hire etc).

Contact the original creditor and try to settle the debt with them, they might take the bailiffs off the case.

You can try to get the warrant set aside. Here is a fact sheet about it.
