Does a bailiff have to be able to prove he/she has called before adding fees?

I am currently paying an outstanding council tax bill to the bailiffs and along with the actual amount outstanding they have added 2 charges for visits, which in theory is to be expected, but only on one visit did the bailiff actually post anything i.e I only have their word that he came a second time.

Surely they should have to prove that the bailiff actually attended before charging me? I asked the firm to provide me with a date and time as I was going to review the security cameras, but they only gave me a date.

If he has been I will pay but I can't help feeling they are trying it on.

Re: Does a bailiff have to be able to prove he/she has ...

I'm afraid I agree with you but I also find bailiff companies impossible to deal with. They add arbitrary fees to debts (e.g. hundreds of pounds for van hire - when the bailiff owns a van) and the council usually washes its hands of the matter - even though they are employing the bailiff.

I would complain to the bailiff company, the council and your local council.
