Student debt

With the ever growing need to secure students loans to equip yourself for 3 years of university life plus overdrafts and credit cards on tap, is there a growing temptation to damage yourself before you even begin?

During my spell at university I worked closely with student unions to monitor the growing effect debt had on graduating students, with the average graduate leaving university with £15,0000 of controlled government debt. This opens the door for the temptation to enter more unsecure forms of debt, including credit cards, overdrafts and graduate loans whilst regular payments are made to education governments (student loan), I would be interested to hear other peoples view on this and whether people think students need more government support to educate student unions on how to provide better debt support?

Re: Student debt

This is a big part of what my organisation does. I work for the Debt Advice Foundation, we are primarily a debt education charity.

As you can see Debt Advice Foundation would certainly be interested in talking about student debt with you.
