Supermarkets are not cheap

Did you realise that supermarkets just are not that cheap. They are just very convenient. Don’t be fooled by the buy-one-get-one-free signs and the 3 for 2’s. Many of the staple items that make up your shopping basket are pricey and can be bought much more cheaply elsewhere.

The areas where I have discovered the biggest savings are meat and vegetables and tinned produce like tomatoes, beans etc. My local butcher is 20% cheaper than my supermarket, I like the banter and I swear the meat tastes better. The same can be said for my fruit and veg which I get from my local market. Aldi is great for the tins and packets, and between them I save about 30% on the supermarket.

I spent £130 per week on food. That’s £6,760 a year. Saving 30% saves me over £2,000 a year. Try it. You will be amazed.
