What stage in the debt cycle are you?

Once upon a time your finances were healthy and if you want them to be, they can be again. These are the typical stages that someone in debt goes through. Do you recognize any?

Credit Junkie
You are financing everyday life with credit cards or loans, or if it’s really bad, bad credit credit cards, payday loans or even porn broking. This is often referred to as ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’.

Missing Payments
You’re running hard, but going backwards. Payments are being missed, letters and calls chasing payment are becoming more frequent.

Trading Your Way Out
You find yourself telling yourself or your creditors that you’ll have the money next week, but like Ground Hog Day that week keeps happening.

Denial
You won’t talk to your family, friends or creditors and accept the urgent need to deal with the problem. You may be even be feeling embarrassed or ashamed. I’m frightened and feeling low. The unknown is frightening. Will I lose my house, my car, my bank account or even my family? This is can often be a really low point in anyone’s life and definitely time to talk to a debt expert.

Lost Control
CCJ's, accounts closed, debt passed on to other companies. You may even be facing repossession. Just some of the signs that tell you that you need to get help.

Hope
You’re reading about the different debt solutions and realizing there are tens of thousands of people going through what you are. Discovering solutions like IVA, Debt Management Plans, and Debt Consolidation provides hope that one day your finances will be back in order and life back to normal.

Relief
You have called a specialist debt company for help or are dealing with your creditors yourself. Either way, you have faced up to your debts and have a solution that is working for you. Life is returning to normal and you're wondering why it took you so long to do it.

Normality
Debts are paid off, credit rating is returning to normal and life is good. If you see your own situation above get help as soon as you can. You’ll feel so much better facing up to your debt and taking positive action to get your finances back under control.

Re: What stage in the debt cycle are you?

This is a great analysis of the debt cycle. I think at times people with debt and personal finance problems have passed through all these stages in varying degrees.
