CAB swamped with credit inquiries

Experts at Cambridge Citizens Advice Bureau are turning people away due to a flood of credit crunch inquiries.

Latest figures show the Newmarket Road centre is swamped with questions about mortgage arrears and redundancies. The drop-in sessions each weekday morning are so busy that advisers cannot get round to everyone and are offering to telephone them instead.

Kim Stollard, head of operations at Cambridge CAB, said: "We are up to our eyeballs in it.

Normally we could run our way through everyone who comes along but now we have to turn them away. For a lot of the people who come to us, it's the first time they have faced a recession.
